This Black History Month we’re encouraging all colleagues to get to know each other and focus more on individualism.

‘Do You Know Who I Am’ is about sharing Mitie colleagues stories, discussing important topics and life experiences, whilst celebrating what makes us individual.

This week we are encouraging colleagues to:

  • Delve into their family history and find out more about where in the world they’re from
  • Each day nominate one person from your team to share an interesting story about their family history
  • Share the amazing family stories within our CHORD diversity network across social media #MitieBHM

BHM 2021_social media cards Story 1-2

As part of Black History Month, I would like to share some interesting facts about me and my family:

1. In 1982 I was invited, alongside my school choir (St. Edwards College), to sing for the Pope at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

2. In 1999, whilst I was working for Liverpool City Council, I was tasked with the front-end design and implementation of the councils first touch screen. The screen was installed in Liverpool’s Central Library for Queen’s visit to Liverpool. The Queen and Prince Phillip both used the screen.

3. My cousin, Ralph Gonsalves, is the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Ralph has been Prime Minister since March 2001.

4. I teach Thai Boxing and over the years I've been fortunate enough to help train 9 UFC fighters and various world champions. This has taken me all over America and Dubai.

5. Because of my martial arts background I was asked by a friend to help him with the security at the hotel, where artists were staying, for the MTV European Music Awards, in Liverpool. Over a 4-day period I got to look after Beyonce, Kanye West, Katy Price, Take That, Pink and a heap of other celebrities.

6. I use to be a DJ and I ran a very successful and exclusive club night in Liverpool! I’ve travelled all over Sweden DJ’ing and I've played at private parties for Liverpool Football Club, Jamiroquai, Pharrell and Kelis.

7. I use to give tours of Liverpool Football Club but I’m not a football fan!
